well it really depends on which email service you use. i know gmail has instructions in their help section on how to do it. i am not sure about yahoo and other services

are you using yahoo mail? you can only use third party programs with yahoo mail if you pay...like yahoo mail plus. bummer.
Reply:It is more of which program you choose to set up to retrieve your e-mail from your e-mail accounts. If you want to use outlook set it up to get your e-mail and don't launch outlook express and set it not to auto launch. both programs will require you to define your mail server and account and log in information. If you have multiple e-mail servers you can configure outlook express for one and outlook for the other.

if you want an alert that u have recieved an e-mail, yahoo messenger, msn messenger, aim, icq and other messengers do it automatically. if you dont use any messengers, no way. =) but there's a software which i tested but it wasn't all good i didn't like it. and trust me, u don't really need it. but here is a tip: if you use mozilla firefox, right mouse click on the tabs bar and "new bookmark" and just enter the name and URL of the mail service. it save your password and it will automatically log in when you just click on it once. easy.

Reply:YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE SOFTWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER FIRST. sorry about the caps I forget. It works better for networking not for individual email. you have to set up your micrpsoft exchange server . I hope this helps probably not.
