If you have the messenger installed open it. Underneath the Yahoo logo (top left) click "messenger" -%26gt; preferences -%26gt; alerts and sounds. Go to the choice box (on the right side), click "enable" -%26gt; click "I receive a message in my Yahoo Mail" -%26gt; choose the sound you want to hear (or click the box "display box dialogue"). After you're done click "okay".

Without more information, it's hard to be real specific, but in general, here's what you need to do.

1. The server must be up and running

2. It must have Internet access

3. Your ISP has to register your mail server in DNS.

1. Install the server, add your users and make sure that relay is OFF. Otherwise you're gonna get blacklisted all over the internet

2. Access to the internet can be done by putting the server on your DMZ and using a public, static IP address or configure your firewall to direct all port 23 traffic to that server and use an internal IP

3. Tell your ISP that you need an MX and an A record created for your public IP address.

If you give me more information about your environment, I can give you more specific answers, but that's pretty much the basic guidelines for setting it up.

Are you trying to use Outlook with your Yahoo mail? if you search Google or Yahoo Answers there are a couple of pages that explain how to set it up. I had to install "Yahoo POPS" to get it to work. Yahoo charges for POP access, it doesn't come with the free account.

Do you mean - so that your PC will tell you when you have mail ?

Your email client (eg Outlook, or Outlook Express) may let you set this so that it plays a sound when email arrives in your inbox.

If you use Outlook use the Menu bar to go to Tools %26gt; Options %26gt; Mail Delivery and then check the "check for new mail every ?? minutes" - setting how often you want it to check - the default 10 minutes is probably a good setting to start with.

You also nee to go to Tools %26gt; Options and on the first Preferences tab, click on E-mail options and then check the "display a notification message when new mail arrives" option.

I am using Outlook 2000 so if you are using a different version there may be differences in what you see on screen.

I don't know you can do this if you use web-based email with your ISP - visit their site and search for "mail delivery alert" and see what they say.

No problem.

You just need to find out the POP3 mail server inbound and outbound server addresses. For example, if you had Comcast High Speed Internet and are using their email, then the POP3 server address (as I remember, I think) would be:

mail.comcast.net

for both in and out servers.

In Outlook, click TOOLS %26gt; EMAIL ACCOUNTS. Then click the radio button next to ADD A NEW EMAIL ACCOUNT. Then click NEXT.

In the next window, click POP3 and click NEXT.

Then type in your name (whatever you want people to see), and your email address. Also put in your user name and password that you have with your email account.

Under 'Server Information', there is the POP3 incoming mail server, and the Outgoing SMTP mail server. Boxes are empty. You will need to put in the addresses for the servers that your ISP has given you. The incoming and the outgoing mail server address may, or may not be the same. An example of a POP3 address might be: mail.comcast.net or mail.YourISP.com or pop3.YourISP.com or smtp.YourISP.com (where YourISP is the actual name of your Internet Service Provider).

Click TEST ACCOUNT SETTINGS, if available on your version of Outlook. Click NEXT and finish up.

This should be all you need to do to set up Outlook with your POP3 email server.

Well, I have never used Gmail until today. I have used Hotmail for over a decade. I've used Yahoo! for about a half decade.

Hotmail at one time offered free POP3 mail access. But then a few years ago they revolked that privelege. From what I know, Hotmail has not offered free POP3 maill access for quite some time.

After all, having web-only access does allow for the costs associated with your mail account by using banner advertising and click-throughs.

I would like to point out that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) usually comes with at least one free email address, usually 5 or maybe more. The only time it does not come with your ISP is if you are on a special budget type of plan. So realize that the ability to get POP3 email from your ISP is not free, since your are paying for internet access.

I have had Yahoo! Mail Plus before, and it is quite cool. You can create up to 50 other email alias addresses at any time. This is usefull for tracking and manipulating spam as well. Plus you get cool features with Yahoo! Mail Plus as well. Go to http://mailplus.mail.yahoo.com/ to learn more.

Under “Outgoing Server (SMTP)”, check the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Enter port number “465” in the “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” field.

If you'd like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, click the "Advanced" tab. Check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server." If you want to delete your messages from the Yahoo! Mail server after viewing them in Outlook, don't check the box.

Click the "OK" button.

Click the "Next" button on the Email Account Wizard, then click "Finished."

Hotmail.

You must have a Windows Live Hotmail Plus subscription in order to get POP3 email access using a Hotmail account. Once you purchase an account, here are the instructions for setting up Outlook Express:

Open Outlook Express.

On the Tools menu, click Accounts.

Click Add, and then click Mail.

Type your name, and then click Next.

Type your full Windows Live Hotmail e-mail address, and then click Next.

In the My incoming mail server is a box, select POP3.

In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server box, type pop3.live.com.

In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type smtp.live.com, and then click Next.

Type the account name and the password for your Windows Live Hotmail account. Clear the Remember password check box unless you're the only person with access to the computer. Make sure that the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box is not selected.

Click Next, and then click Finish.

In the Internet Accounts window, on the Mail tab, click the Windows Live Hotmail account that you added, and then click Properties.

On the Advanced tab, under Server Port Numbers, in the Incoming server (POP3) box, type 995. In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, type 25. Under both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3), select the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) check boxes, and then click OK. From what I understand, some Hotmail accounts were grandfathered-in so that they still have POP3 mail access without charge.

Reply:You need to install Microsoft OFFICE. Under Vista, a new version of office is available. Initially a 60-day trial is available for a download. After that, it will expire if you do not buy.

You will get the outlook with the office.

To set it up, you should talk to your sys administrator or your internet service provider. They will guide you what to enter for POP account.

It is very easy. You can do it while on your friend's computer or his home page. Start by logging out of his page. Then you will see a box that says "Do you want a Yahoo email address? Follow these steps." Click there and then just fill out the few simple questions like what screen name, what password, etc. You can finish it in a few minutes and then will have your own address that you can sign into.

You can create what is called a Category. You name it---and when mailing, you enter that name in TO field and all recieve it.

On mail page click on "Addresses" and then on the "add category" tab. Here you give it a name and choose sorting order of names. Click on "add category".

To enter the names----click on Addresses and in the contact list----put a check next to the names and then (at top of contact list), click "add to category". You will find the category name in your address book.

Do you have a modem cable to connect to your telephone socket? If not you'll need one unless your laptop is wireless enabled and you have a broadband connection to a pc and a wireless router. Assuming you don't (because if you did you wouldn't be asking), get a modem cable, plug in and use the icons on your desktop to connect using the wizard. Or you can choose an internet service provider and get a cd from them which will do the job for you.

Reply:It is more of which program you choose to set up to retrieve your e-mail from your e-mail accounts. If you want to use outlook set it up to get your e-mail and don't launch outlook express and set it not to auto launch. both programs will require you to define your mail server and account and log in information. If you have multiple e-mail servers you can configure outlook express for one and outlook for the other.

Just sign up a yahoo email :) I made one for my youger sister last year. The only con is that you have to put in a faulty birthdate, otherwise they will ask for parental permission, and you will have to fax over a form.

Last time I clicked the signup form, I don't think I saw a credit info. The closest it comes to would be occupation, which is optional.

I have had this problem since yesterday and I cannot reply or send email - it looks as though it has sent and shows in my sent box but the emails are not working. I have been in touch woth Yahoo via their live chat and they say they have passed it to an engineer. I suggest that everyone with this problem does the same so that we get our problem resolved ASAP as the only idea they can give me is if I don't hear within 48 hour hours to contact them again!

Okay...I am assuming you have Yahoo! Mail.

Here are the steps:

1) On the top right hand corner there's a button that says "Options," click on it.

2) A list should come out. Now click on "Mail Options" which is the first button on the list.

3) Once you click it there will be a whole new page. And on the left there's a column. Click on "Signature" it's the second button on the column.

4) Now click "Show a signature on all outgoing messages."

5) If you want it in fancy writing there's a button on top of the box that says "Rich text" or something like that.

When you setup outlook, set up the same account on both PCs.

In the advanced account setup, set it to leave all mail on the server for 10 days or so.

As long as you use both computers within that time period, you'll both have all the same email.

You can do this through Yahoo! Instant Messenger. You'd have to be signed into Messenger at the time to get the alerts. From main Messenger window, click Messenger %26gt; Preferences %26gt; Alerts %26amp; Sounds. Check the box next to "Enable alert sounds" then highlight "I receive a message in Yahoo! Mail" then select the types of alerts you'd like. Click "Apply" and "OK" to save your changes.

As a teacher, can I set up Email accts for my students so they can ONLY email to students within the class?

Well, it depends.

What you can do is set up a club or group like at www.meetup.org

Then your students are given IDs and made members of the group. They can participate in message threads that everyone in the group can read and can send each other private messages that no one else can read. No one who isn't a member of the group can even see who is in there let alone what's going on.

You can set up email accounts but filter out all messages from all sources except a "white list" of other students. But that's not foolproof and your kids will learn how to defeat it.

If the computers are in school and not in the student's homes, you can set up an intranet environment which doesn't even interact with the internet so no outside stuff can get in.

But, if the computers are in the homes, there is little you can do to make sure the kids are not exposed to strangers. The kids will find a way if they want to. And they will want to.

How do you set up email client for nokia 770?

1. Fire up your Nokia 770’s email application.

Click on the People icon %26gt; View Inbox. Alternately, click on the Programs icon %26gt; Contact group %26gt; E-mail.

2. Click on the Main Menu part of the titlebar, then Tools %26gt; New account… The Account Setup wizard dialog appears.

3. Intro: Read the Intro screen (blah blah blah), then click Next.

4. Step 1: On the Account Setup (1/4) screen, give the account a name, such as “Gmail”. For the Account type, select “Pop3″. Click Next.

5. Step 2: On the next screen (2/4), put in the following values. Imagine your name is Clark Gable. Enter the following information, then click Next.

12. It may start to pull down your email immediately. If not, speed things along by clicking on the Inbox’s Send/Receive icon. (It’s in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen on the far right; the one with the up and down arrows on it.)

I believe you have to be a "Mail Plus" customer first. Assuming you are the POP settings are as follows:

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication

Why do it from scratch? When you register a domain, your provider will automatically set up the mail server for it.
Reply:Definitely not from scratch. to create an email you need a subscription to a domain name. The registrar's MX records must point to a proper smtp server which will accept mail for that domain. To use this you need to use the webmail on that server, or an smtp client like MS Outlook.

This is fairly simple to do! Go to the Yahoo homepage (http://www.yahoo.com for most people).

If you are signed in, you will see "Hi, {Yahoo ID}" on the right hand side of the page and Sign Out to the right of that. If so, click Sign Out.

Now the links will change to Sign In and Sign Up. Just click on Sign Up and fill out the necessary details and hubby will have a Yahoo account.

BTW, you are not limited to one Yahoo account per person. You can have many. I have two Yahoo accounts, one is for my adult stuff and the other is for my family (never the twain shall meet).
